Edinburgh: A Scottish Rugby Union team manager, Steven Dyer, has been found guilty of some pretty serious stuff. He sent indecent images and made sexual comments to schoolboys during a training camp.

This all went down in 2023 when Dyer, who was 27 at the time, shared sexual videos and pictures with the boys. He even posted a video of himself urinating and another where he was licking his finger in a suggestive way on Snapchat, which the kids could see.

One of the players reported that Dyer sent him a graphic image and made crude remarks about his body. It was a concerned parent who alerted a teacher after finding out about the messages, leading to Dyer’s arrest.

After the allegations came to light, Dyer was suspended from his role with the Scottish Rugby Union and lost his job at Lloyds Banking Group. He claimed it was all just “rugby banter” and insisted that what he shared wasn’t sexual at all.

However, the court didn’t buy it. Dyer was found guilty of three counts of indecent communication. The sheriff said the young victims were credible and reliable in their testimonies, while Dyer tried to downplay his actions.

He’s now on the sex offenders register, and the full sentencing will happen in March after some reports are prepared. The trial revealed that the boys were really affected by Dyer’s behavior, with one saying he felt embarrassed and uncomfortable.

Dyer, who was managing the youth squad, claimed he was just part of a group chat where they exchanged “rude” messages. He admitted to sending the urination video but insisted there was no sexual intent behind it.

He also mentioned that he hadn’t received any training on how to handle situations with underage players. The Scottish Rugby Union clarified that Dyer was a contracted volunteer, not a full-time employee, and they’ve been asked for comments on the case.
