Edinburgh: Betty Campbell, a 69-year-old gran, can’t talk anymore. She has Bulbar Palsy, a rare neurological condition. It affects her face, throat, and tongue muscles.

Betty first noticed her speech problems. After many tests, she got the diagnosis. Now, she struggles to swallow and uses a text-to-speech app to communicate.

Her granddaughter, Rachel, shared that Betty had issues for a while. They thought it might be a stroke at first. Betty can still walk but has a soft food diet now.

Rachel said, “It started with speech issues, and now she can’t talk at all.” Betty finds it frustrating to use her iPad, but she has a special chair to help her sit up.

Rachel is preparing for a charity skydive to support the MND Association. She wants to honor her nana and give back. “She’s always helping others,” Rachel said.

Rachel described Betty as selfless and strong. They share a close bond, and Betty is the heart of their family. To donate to the fundraiser, click here.
