Adam Hastings, Scotland, Rugby, Driving Ban, Gloucester

Gloucester: So, Adam Hastings, the rugby player, just got hit with a six-month driving ban. He was caught using his phone while driving and speeding. Not a great combo, right?

He’s 28 and has played for Scotland 32 times. The court found him guilty of both charges, and he ended up with fines totaling £618. Ouch!

It all went down at Gloucestershire Magistrates’ Court. Apparently, on February 20 last year, police saw him using his phone while driving on the A40 Golden Valley bypass. Not the best idea, especially with cops around.

He was also caught speeding at 37 mph in a 30 mph zone in London last June. With six points already on his license from previous speeding tickets, he was looking at a ban.

The prosecutor shared that police noticed his car weaving a bit before they pulled him over. They saw him holding the phone and chatting away. Not exactly the best look for a pro athlete.

Hastings didn’t show up in court but had already pleaded guilty. His lawyer argued that he only used the phone for a few seconds and that the weaving could’ve been due to potholes. Still, the judge wasn’t having it.

The judge pointed out that Hastings didn’t provide any reasons to avoid the ban and that he’d have to surrender his license. The penalties included fines and points on his license, which led to the ban.

Hastings comes from a rugby family, with his dad and uncle also having played for Scotland. He’s currently with the Glasgow Warriors, and hopefully, this experience will keep him off his phone while driving in the future!
