Wales: So, it’s been a rough day for schools in Wales. A bunch of them had to close on January 10 because of the icy weather. The roads are pretty treacherous, and there’s a yellow ice warning in effect until 10 AM.
The Met Office is saying we might see 2-4 cm of snow in some spots. They warned that scattered wintry showers would fade overnight, but that just means icy patches on untreated roads as temperatures drop below freezing.
They mentioned that isolated snow accumulations could happen, especially in the hills of Wales. With these freezing temps, folks are being told to be extra careful. Some schools in north Wales are either fully or partially closed, according to North Wales Live.
Now, here’s a quick rundown of the closures. In Gwynedd, Ysgol Treferthyr in Criccieth is closed because the site is too icy. Ysgol Hafod Lon in Penrhyndeudraeth is also shut since the car park is frozen solid. Ysgol Cymerau in Pwllheli is closed too, with dangerous conditions all around.
There are several other closures in Gwynedd, including multiple sites of Ysgol Bro Idris, all due to ice and snow. In Conwy, Ysgol Bro Eilian is closed because the site isn’t safe, and Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn is shut down due to heating issues.
Denbighshire has its share of schools affected by adverse weather, and Flintshire’s Ysgol Maes y Felin in Holywell is closed for public safety. Wrexham and Anglesey haven’t reported any closures yet.
WalesOnline has even set up a WhatsApp community for breaking news and updates. If you want to stay in the loop about everything from court stories to weather warnings, it’s a good way to keep informed without being bombarded with messages.
