Greater Manchester, UK, Snow, Flooding, School Closures
Greater Manchester: A bunch of schools and colleges are closed today because of the wild weather. After a snowy weekend, rain and freezing temps are causing chaos this morning.
The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for heavy rain and snow and ice. There are also several flood alerts in place. Most schools in Oldham are shut on what should be the first day back after the Christmas break.
Some areas are still dealing with the aftermath of the New Year’s floods. Manchester Airport had to close its runways this morning due to snow but reopened them around 7:15 AM. Passengers should brace for delays.
On top of that, many roads are closed because of flooding, including Woodhead Pass and the A555. The M62 was also closed eastbound from junctions 21 to 24 earlier but has since reopened.
Sunday morning brought a thick layer of snow, leading to major disruptions. There are currently six flood warnings and 11 less severe flood alerts around Greater Manchester and Warrington.
