Halifax: The Canadian Press reached out to folks from Halifax to Vancouver to get their take on Trump’s wild idea about Canada becoming the “51st state.”

People had a lot to say about it.

Chinwe Chima from Halifax emphasized that the next prime minister needs to defend Canada’s sovereignty.

Mark MacDonald, also from Halifax, thinks we’re giving too much attention to Trump’s nonsense. He believes ignoring such comments might make them go away.

Mark McMullin, yet another Haligonian, expressed concern that Trump might take cues from Putin and what’s happening globally.

Cynthia Alday, also from Halifax, found the whole idea annoying and not a laughing matter.

Mireille Plourde from Montreal thinks Trump is out of his mind, but admits it’s a bit scary given his past actions.

Simon Genereux-Vien, also from Montreal, feels it’s crucial to take Trump seriously, as it could impact the Canadian economy.

Sherry Seguin from Ottawa called the idea ridiculous, asserting that Canada will always be Canada.

Daniel Law, another Ottawa resident, appreciated that Prime Minister Trudeau spoke out against Trump’s comments and wishes more politicians would do the same.

Kate Rogers from Toronto noted that Trump’s comments are making many Canadians nervous.

Blaine Matthew, also from Toronto, dismissed it as the same old Trump tactics, labeling them as empty threats.

Ari Ron from Vancouver suggested Trump should do his homework on how such a plan would work, given the cultural differences.

Fabian Muhlenbruch, also from Vancouver, expressed concern about the global trend of such rhetoric.

This report was compiled with contributions from various journalists across Canada.
