Ardrossan: The Save Ardrossan Harbour group is feeling pretty down about the recent sailing of the Glen Sannox. They see it as a sign that things might not be looking good for the harbour.

A spokesperson shared their thoughts, saying it’s tough to feel excited when a ship sailing could mean trouble for Ardrossan. The new ferry can’t dock there until the harbour gets some much-needed upgrades, so for now, it’ll be sailing from South Ayrshire.

This change means longer trips for folks heading to Arran, which could really hurt Ardrossan’s economy. The spokesperson pointed out that this situation shows poor planning and a lack of commitment to the town.

They expressed their disappointment, noting that after nearly 200 years, Ardrossan Harbour is now sitting empty. It’s frustrating because many officials have publicly supported keeping Ardrossan as a harbour, but there’s been no action to back it up.

Local businesses are already feeling the pinch due to the government’s mishandling of the situation. The spokesperson mentioned that businesses in Ardrossan and Brodick have already suffered from reduced services over the past 18 months.

They emphasized the need for clarity and community engagement from the Scottish Government, which has been lacking. The supposed business case is often talked about but never seems to lead anywhere.

As Kevin Hobbs, the chief executive of CMAL, put it, the process is in “the middle of nowhere,” and the group couldn’t agree more. They believe the current plans for redeveloping Ardrossan Harbour include unnecessary work that no one really wants.

They’re calling for simple changes to allow the Glen Sannox to dock reliably. The community is happy with the current facilities, and any upgrades can come later.

In the end, they’re urging the Scottish Government and all involved to listen to the community and help them save Ardrossan Harbour.
