Colchester: On Saturday, a car crashed into Dusty’s, a second-hand store, around 4:40 AM. Police quickly cordoned off the area, and emergency services arrived.

Tragically, four University of Essex students were in the car. They were Makyle Bailey, 22, Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 21, Anthony Hibbert, 24, and Daljang Wol, 22. Sadly, all four died.

Residents described the car as “absolutely unrecognizable.” On Sunday, Magdalen Road reopened, and many tributes poured in for the students.

Later that day, at 6:25 PM, police responded to a hit-and-run in Ashlyns, Pitsea. Unfortunately, two children, a brother and sister named Roman Casselden, 16, and Darcie, 9, lost their lives despite emergency efforts.

A fundraiser was created to support their family. The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) released a statement on Facebook about the tragic incidents.

They noted that six young lives were lost in one weekend, a record for the past 43 years. They expressed their condolences to the families affected.

SERP emphasized the importance of road safety, stating, “No one deserves to die on our roads.” They called for everyone to reflect on the tragedy and work together to prevent future accidents.
