Bearwood: Fans of a beloved butcher shop are feeling sad. Alan Warwick Butchers on Bearwood Road is set to close on February 15.
A sign on the window announced the closure, but it didn’t explain why. This shop is part of a Black Country chain known for quality meats.
They offered a range of meats, including beef, lamb, pork, and poultry. Locals shared their reactions on a Facebook neighborhood page after hearing the news.
One local, Philip Bowerman, said, “Use it or lose it. If we prefer supermarkets, we can’t complain about closures.”
Janet Colin added, “Now there’s no proper butcher in Bearwood, just supermarkets. It’s killing the town.”
Karen James mentioned empty stalls in Bearwood Market, wishing for a butcher there. She also noted a nice fruit and veg stall in the market.
Jane Woodward expressed concern, saying, “Another good shop gone from Bearwood High Street. How many more will close?”
She pointed out that the pandemic hurt businesses, and things have been tough since Safeway closed. The fire in the market also impacted Bearwood, and now people are ordering online, which doesn’t help local shops.
