She believes there are better ways to handle the situation than abandoning pets. Shani is now working to find a foster carer for the puppy and hopes to find him a loving forever home.
She emphasized that abandoning pets is cruel and unacceptable. There are resources available to help people re-home their animals instead of leaving them behind. Shani is committed to ensuring the puppy gets a second chance at life.

The Animal Welfare League in Queensland also expressed concern about the council’s decision, stating that most rough sleepers manage their pets responsibly. They believe a more compassionate approach is needed to support vulnerable individuals and their pets.
They warned that banning pets could lead to more animals being abandoned, as many rough sleepers have a deep bond with their pets. Losing that connection could negatively impact their mental health.
The RSPCA echoed these concerns, stating that prohibiting pet ownership could result in more animals being dumped, which harms both the animals and their owners. They have been providing free services to vulnerable residents in Moreton Bay to help keep pets and their owners together.
