Sydney: So, there’s this rugby player, Connor Lind, who got into some serious trouble. He was convicted for having sex with a 14-year-old girl and was supposed to go to jail for almost a year.
But guess what? He walked out of court on bail right after his sentencing. His lawyer jumped in and said they’re appealing the conviction, which is why he got bail for now.
The judge, John Pickering, said Lind’s actions weren’t exactly “predatory,” but he still had to face the music. He pointed out that Lind knew the girl was underage and still chose to pursue a relationship with her.
During the trial, it came out that Lind was 19 when he started messaging the girl and even sent her a Christmas card. The judge made it clear that society expects older guys to stay away from young teens.
The girl shared how this whole experience made her grow up faster and feel cynical about men. It’s a tough situation, and the judge emphasized that we don’t want older guys getting involved with girls who are still in school.
Now, Lind’s future in rugby could be in jeopardy because of this. His lawyer tried to argue that young men can control themselves, but the judge wasn’t buying it. He pointed out that Lind actively pursued this relationship.
As part of his bail conditions, Lind has to report to the police every week and give up his passport. It’s a wild story, and it’s definitely not over yet.
