Washington D.C.: So, guess what? Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Australia’s ambassador to the US, Kevin Rudd, are heading to Donald Trump’s inauguration. This is happening on January 20, and it’s a bit of a surprise given Rudd’s past comments about Trump.

Yeah, Rudd once called Trump “the most destructive president in history.” But now, he’s all set to represent Australia at this big event. Wong’s office confirmed they’ll be there, and she’s even planning to meet with some key folks in the Trump Administration.

Wong said she feels “honoured” to be invited, calling it a sign of the strong bond between Australia and the US. It’s kind of a big deal, right?

There’s also talk about getting the foreign ministers from the Quad countries together. That includes the US, India, Japan, and Australia. Wong emphasized how important the US is to Australia, calling it our closest ally.

After Trump won the election, Rudd faced some backlash for his old tweets. He had called Trump a “traitor to the West,” which didn’t sit well with some people. But now, he’s looking forward to working with Trump and strengthening ties between the two countries.

So, it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. Trump will officially be sworn in as the 47th president, and it looks like Australia is ready to play ball.
