Merthyr Vale: The Royal British Legion is reaching out to Second World War veterans. They want everyone to register for the 80th anniversary events of VE Day and VJ Day in 2025.

This year marks a big milestone since the war ended. VE Day was on May 8, 1945, and VJ Day was on August 15, 1945. It’s a chance to remember and honor those who served.

The RBL has set up a registration page on their website. They’re inviting veterans, their families, and caregivers to join in on both national and local events.

They’re planning some major gatherings to ensure that the sacrifices made by the entire WWII generation are not forgotten.

Jim Miller, a 100-year-old D-Day veteran from Merthyr Vale, shared how important 2025 is for his generation. He said it’s an honor to be part of these events and to remember those who didn’t make it back.

He encourages all veterans to sign up on the RBL’s website. It’s a great way to be involved and to share their stories.

Philippa Rawlinson, who directs remembrance at the RBL, mentioned that these anniversaries might be the last chance for the nation to come together with WWII veterans. It’s a moment to pay tribute to their bravery and remember those who lost their lives.

The RBL is also working with the government and other groups to plan the national events for VE and VJ Day 80. It’s all about making sure these important stories and experiences are shared.
