Pebble Beach: Rory McIlroy won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a six-under 66. He finished two shots ahead of Shane Lowry, ending at 21-under-par. After his win, he called home to share the exciting news.
In a video on X, McIlroy smiled while FaceTiming his daughter Poppy and wife Erica. Poppy was enjoying a bubble bath, and Erica playfully asked her what she wanted to say to her dad.
Poppy excitedly said, “We’re taking a bubbles, we are taking a bubble bath!” Erica encouraged her to congratulate McIlroy. Poppy then said, “I love you, mwah!” and “Cheers papa!”
After some prompting, Poppy finally said, “Congratulations, papa!” McIlroy and Erica welcomed Poppy in August 2020. She has made headlines before, like when she ran away instead of hugging him after his Scottish Open win.
Last year, McIlroy’s family life made news when he filed for divorce from Erica after seven years. He served her papers at their Florida home. However, the filing was withdrawn less than a month later, and they stayed together.
Afterward, McIlroy addressed rumors about his personal life. He said, “There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game.” He added that they realized their best future was as a family.
