Harlow: They’re kicking off roadside clearance works on Fifth Avenue, also known as Zelenskyy Avenue. This is happening on the Hertfordshire side of the River Stort.

The work is set for January and February, which is smart since it avoids the busy bird nesting season. They’ll be clearing out overgrown shrubs and ground plants.

If any trees are at risk of falling or are too old, they’ll be replaced. They plan to plant over 850 new trees once the highway work wraps up.

This phase will help rebuild Fifth Avenue – Zelenskyy Avenue between Burnt Mill and Eastwick roundabouts. They’re making room for new bus, walking, and cycling routes, plus a redesigned road for cars.

Next month, they’ll shift the work to the Essex side of Fifth Avenue. They’re trying to keep delays to a minimum, but they have temporary traffic measures ready just in case.

This is actually the second phase of the highway work between Harlow Town Centre and Burnt Mill roundabout. It’s a big investment for Harlow, connecting Gilston’s new Garden Town villages with the town center.

Cllr Alastair Gunn from Harlow Council mentioned that these roadworks are crucial for improving public transport and making cycling and walking safer and more accessible. It’s all about reducing future road congestion.
