Bridlington: So, there was this intense situation in Bridlington Bay where both the Bridlington and Flamborough RNLI teams had to jump into action. They got a mayday call about a guy who had fallen overboard from a fishing boat.
The call came in around 2:11 PM on a Monday, and the Flamborough crew was right behind them, launching just a few minutes later. The poor guy had gone overboard about 10 miles east of Bridlington from a 21-meter fishing vessel.
Both lifeboats were out there in a flash. Bridlington’s lifeboat, named ‘Antony Patrick Jones’, had a six-person crew, while Flamborough’s ‘Elizabeth Jane Palmer’ had three on board. They reached the scene in about 15 minutes, and a Coastguard helicopter was also on its way.
When they all got there, they found out the man had been pulled back onto the boat but was showing signs of hypothermia. Two volunteers from Bridlington hopped on the fishing vessel to help out, along with a paramedic from the Coastguard.
After checking him out and making sure he was stable, they airlifted him to Hull Royal Infirmary for more tests. Once the helicopter left, both lifeboats were given the all-clear and headed back home, with Bridlington RNLI getting back to the harbor around 4:06 PM.
Andy Rodgers, the coxswain of the Bridlington RNLI, said it was a great launch, getting the lifeboat in the water in just 19 minutes. He was really pleased with how quickly they got to the scene, working alongside the Coastguard and Flamborough RNLI.
He added that it was a fantastic team effort and hoped the man would recover fully after such a scary situation. It’s been a busy time for the Bridlington RNLI crew, but they handled it like pros!
