Liverpool: Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was buzzing when he heard the match against Liverpool would still happen, even with all that snow. He shared a throwback pic of himself celebrating at Anfield, and couldn’t resist poking fun at Reds fans, saying, “Let’s goooo! Come on @ManUtd.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool City Council had a couple of safety meetings to figure out if the game could go on. The North West was hit with a serious snowstorm, and the Met Office even issued an amber weather warning for Liverpool and Manchester.

Though the snow is supposed to lighten up later, it’s still going to be pretty cold, with temps only hitting around 2 °C. Even with more sleet and rain expected, they confirmed the game would kick off as planned.

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher was also excited, posting “Game on!” on social media as he looked forward to his pundit duties for Sky Sports. His colleague Vinny O’Connor echoed that sentiment, sharing a post showing the pitch being cleared of snow.

Liverpool released a statement confirming the match would go ahead, thanking everyone who helped make it happen. They reminded fans to be careful while traveling to Anfield. Manchester United also reassured their supporters that it was safe to attend the match, which is set for a 16:30 GMT start.
