Llantilio Crossenny: A former farm barn is getting a new life as a micro gin distillery. This is part of a cool rewilding project happening at Grange Farm.

Tom and Chloe Constable, the farm owners, got the green light for some seasonal glamping pods and to turn another barn into a podcast studio. That’s set for summer 2024.

Now, they’ve also received approval to convert a different barn into a gin distillery. This could create a couple of part-time jobs, which is great for the area.

The planning officer, Kate Bingham, noted that this barn is one of several on the 80-acre site that are no longer needed for farming since they’re focusing on rewilding.

Initially, there was talk of having a shop, but that idea was scrapped. Sales will only be for visitors already at the farm, which should ease concerns from the local community about traffic on the narrow lane.

Speaking of the lane, the council mentioned it’s not in the best shape, with plenty of potholes to dodge.

Bingham pointed out that no major changes are needed for the barn, which has been used for farming for quite a while. Plus, the gin production will actually help support the rewilding efforts.

She added that the distillery would attract more visitors to the Grange Project, benefiting both the local economy and the rewilding activities.

Tom Constable shared that the goal of rewilding is to boost biodiversity. He joked that they’re not bringing back bears or wolves, but they hope to see some insects and maybe even the curlew bird return to the area.
