James Akinwande, Brixton, London, Murder, Justice

Brixton: The family of James Akinwande, who was tragically murdered 31 years ago, is still grappling with their loss. They’re feeling a mix of pain and hope as a £20,000 reward is now on the table for information that could lead to justice.

James was just 18 when he was attacked after leaving a nightclub in the early hours of January 16, 1994. His sister, Victoria, shared how the family’s life changed forever that night. She described their grief as “indescribable,” a feeling that still lingers.

On the anniversary of his death, she reflected on the emptiness they’ve felt since losing him. The police are still on the hunt for the group responsible for this horrific act, and they’re urging anyone with information to come forward.

That night, there were fights at the club, which led James and his friends to leave early. Unfortunately, he was singled out and chased down. He tried to escape but was ultimately attacked and suffered fatal stab wounds.

Victoria recalled how he managed to break free and ran toward a police van, but it was too late. The jacket he wore that night, a distinctive Fila, was stolen and remains missing. It’s a painful reminder of that tragic evening.

She also shared how their mother is so heartbroken that she can’t even visit James’s grave. The family remembers him as a loving and funny guy with dreams of a bright future, which were all taken away in an instant.

Detective Superintendent Katherine Goodwin reassured the family that they haven’t given up on finding justice for James. They’re still actively looking for anyone involved in the incident.

If you have any information, the police are asking you to reach out. Every little bit helps in the quest for justice.
