Oadby: Residents in Oadby and Wigston are being asked to help shape their community’s future. The Oadby and Wigston Borough Council has kicked off a consultation for their Local Plan, which will guide development until 2041.

This consultation is open to everyone—residents, businesses, and organizations. It started last Friday and will run for six weeks, wrapping up on February 21. The plan covers everything from housing and infrastructure to green spaces and community facilities.

Even though the plan is set until 2041, the government requires these Local Plans to be reviewed every five years. This way, the council can adapt to any new challenges that pop up.

Along with the current feedback, the council will also consider comments from previous consultations held in 2021 and 2024. They even had public drop-in sessions last April to gather more input.

Councillor Samia Haq, the leader of the council, emphasized the importance of public input. She said the new draft Local Plan aims to create a sustainable and vibrant future for everyone in the borough. The current plan has been a solid guide for development, and updating it with fresh ideas is crucial.

She encouraged everyone to share their thoughts and help shape the future of Oadby and Wigston. If you want to join in, just head over to the Oadby and Wigston Borough Council website and look for planning consultations.
