Brighton: A school that was on the chopping block has been given a second chance. Hamilton Lodge School and College for Deaf Children was set to close this summer after 80 years of service.
But then, a parent named Helen Husbands stepped up. She started a petition that gathered nearly 11,000 signatures. Parents also reached out to Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson for help.
Remember when the kids from the school appeared on Strictly Come Dancing? It was such a proud moment, especially when deaf star Rose Ayling-Ellis won the show. That joy is something everyone wanted to keep alive.
Now, there’s a reason to celebrate! The board of trustees announced on the school’s website that they’ve decided not to close the school after all.
They mentioned that some changes are needed to keep the school financially stable moving forward. They promised to share more details in upcoming meetings with parents and staff.
The trustees expressed gratitude for the community’s support during this tough time. It’s a relief for everyone involved, and they’re looking forward to working together in the months ahead.
