Repeat Drunk Lorry Driver Banned After Drinking Half a Bottle of Vodka
A lorry driver, caught nearly five times over the limit, has been jailed and banned from driving for five years after a dangerous chase.
Crawley, Surrey, Dainius Juodis, Drink Driving, M23
Crawley: So, there was this lorry driver, Dainius Juodis, who really messed up. He was caught driving while almost five times over the legal alcohol limit. Can you believe that? This happened last Saturday on the M23.
The 50-year-old was behind the wheel of a big rig on the A23 when the police started chasing him. He didn’t stop right away and finally pulled over four miles later on the motorway. Talk about a wild ride!
When they arrested him, they found out he had downed half a bottle of vodka before hitting the road. Not smart at all! He had a history of drink driving, which made things worse.
Juodis went to Crawley Magistrates’ Court a couple of days later and admitted to the charges. He got three months in jail and a five-year driving ban. Ouch!
Inspector Mark Robinson from the Tactical Firearms Unit said it was a shocking situation. They had to keep everyone safe while dealing with a lorry that wouldn’t stop. It was a real risk for everyone on the road.
Juodis ended up stopping in a live lane, which forced the police to shut down four lanes just to safely arrest him. He’s lucky he didn’t hurt anyone or cause a serious accident.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of drink and drug driving, especially during Sussex Police’s winter campaign, Operation Limit. It’s a major cause of serious injuries and fatalities on the roads.
