Newry: So, the reopening of the swimming pool in Newry has hit another snag. The Council just announced that the pool and health suite at the Leisure Centre won’t be opening as planned.

Originally, they were aiming for a phased reopening by the end of January 2025, but now it’s pushed back a few weeks. They want to make sure everything is up to snuff with health and safety standards.

A spokesperson from the Council said they really regret the delay and understand how disappointing this is for everyone who uses the facilities. They’re working hard to get things sorted.

Good news, though! They’ll start refilling the pools on January 20, which is a big job. They need to bring in over a million litres of water, and that’ll take about three weeks.

After that, they’ll do all the necessary safety checks, like testing the water quality and heating the pools to the right temperature. Plus, they’ll train the staff to ensure everything runs smoothly when they finally reopen.

The Council is committed to keeping everyone safe and happy, and they’re collaborating with stakeholders to wrap up preparations. They’ll keep everyone updated on their progress, and membership discounts will still apply during this wait.

Thanks for being patient and understanding while they take these important steps!
