Ottawa: The union for the Mounties is really happy about the federal government’s plan to spend $1.3 billion on border security. This funding aims to keep our immigration system secure and efficient.
In their recent economic update, the Liberal government announced this investment. They want to use advanced technology to help law enforcement make sure that only eligible individuals can stay in Canada.
This funding will be spread out over six years and will support the RCMP, Public Safety Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency, and the Communications Security Establishment.
RCMP officers are responsible for enforcing laws at the border and investigating any criminal activities that happen there. They’ve been doing this with limited resources, so this new funding is a big deal.
Brian Sauvé, the president of the National Police Federation, mentioned that this money will help them do their job better and keep the border safe.
Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc is set to join other ministers later today to share more details about this plan. It’s an exciting time for border security in Canada!
