Blackwood: Residents are really fed up. Their street hasn’t seen a bin collection in over a month, and now rubbish is piling up everywhere. It’s attracting rats, and folks are understandably upset.

On William Street, the last collection was on December 19. Since then, wheelie bins and food waste boxes have been overflowing. Locals are pointing fingers at the council, blaming them for the mess after changes to rubbish collection started last October.

People are worried about the rats. The council has apologized, saying this is a “one-off” situation and promising to clean things up quickly. But they also claim the new waste collection rules aren’t to blame for the current chaos.

Some residents are even sharing bins to manage the overflow, but it’s getting tough to keep the pests away. One local, Mark Birkby, said it’s ridiculous and that he’s reached out to everyone he can think of for help.

Another resident mentioned that delays have been happening for a while, but this is the longest they’ve gone without a collection. With all the holiday waste, it couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Mark pointed out that if it weren’t for the elderly residents on the street, the situation would be even worse. They don’t produce as much waste, which is a small blessing in this mess.

Meanwhile, Ashleigh Harris shared her frustration, saying the rat problem has gotten worse since October. The extra waste isn’t helping at all.

The council has promised to learn from this and make sure it doesn’t happen again. They thanked residents for their efforts to recycle and reduce waste, but it’s clear that many are still feeling the impact of the ongoing issues.
