Wigan: Councillors are really pushing for better public transport to Haigh Hall. They recently checked out the site, which is getting a £50 million facelift, and were not impressed with how hard it was to get there.

They took a trip using public transport and came back with some serious concerns. A report mentioned that they were asked to leave their cars behind and rely on buses instead.

After their journey, they agreed that the current transport options just don’t cut it. They said it makes it tough for everyone to visit the hall.

One councillor pointed out that getting there was a hassle. Two of them had to take two buses and then walk for 45 minutes. That’s a lot of effort just to see a historic site!

Another issue was the access from the Plantation Gates, which isn’t exactly easy to navigate. Plus, the cost of four bus rides can really add up, making it tough for some folks.

They also mentioned that there should be better signs at the bus stop to help people find their way to Haigh Hall. It’s all about making it easier for visitors.

Some councillors worried that if it’s such a hassle to get there, people might not want to come back. A shuttle bus or even a little train could really help out.

One councillor noted that if it was hard to get there on a nice day, imagine how tough it would be in bad weather. Everyone agreed that accessing Haigh Hall without a car was a real challenge.
