Portland: A public meeting is happening soon. It’s about the waste incinerator campaign. Local leaders will speak, and community members can ask questions.
Speakers include MP Lloyd Hatton and Dorset Council leader Nick Ireland. They’ll share updates on the campaign to stop the incinerator.
People can discuss their concerns and ideas. The incinerator plan has faced strong opposition. It’s set for Portland Port, but many locals disagree.
The Secretary of State approved the plan in September, despite Dorset Council’s refusal. The applicant, Powerfuel, is waiting for an environmental permit.
A High Court review is scheduled for March 12 due to a legal challenge. Local councillor Giovanna Lewis will chair the meeting and supports the opposition.
She believes more people are realizing the negative effects of incinerators. The meeting will be informal, allowing everyone to share their thoughts.
It’s set for Thursday, February 6, at 7 PM at Portland Social Club on High Street, Fortuneswell. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion.
