London: So, there was quite a scene outside Downing Street recently. Iraqi protesters were really fired up about a migrant returns deal with the UK. They chased after their Prime Minister’s car as it was leaving. Talk about a dramatic exit!

Sir Keir Starmer and PM Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani were supposed to chat about this new agreement. It’s all about tackling those people-smuggling gangs that have ties to Iraq. Sounds serious, right?

Before the meeting, Sir Keir mentioned that this deal could help break down those smuggling networks. But outside, things were heating up. As the Iraqi PM arrived, you could hear the crowd chanting. One protester even yelled, “Are you gambling with our lives?”

When Mr. Sudani’s car finally left, the protesters ramped up their chants. One person even threw something at the convoy, but thankfully, it missed. They then took off after the cars down Whitehall, with police trying to keep things under control.

Eventually, the protesters stopped chasing and had a chat with the police before heading off. One of them, Farman Haji, made it clear they were against the migration deal, saying it would put Iraqi lives at risk if they were sent back.

He passionately stated, “We want to save a thousand, thousand lives in the UK.” It’s clear they were there to make their voices heard.

The Dakok Organisation for Rights and Freedom, which Farman is part of, aims to support the Kurdish community in the UK. After the meeting, a spokesperson from Downing Street said both leaders talked about the situation in the Middle East and the need for peace and stability.

Sir Keir also highlighted the growing partnership between the UK and Iraq, mentioning a hefty £12.3 billion trade package. They’re really looking to strengthen ties and work on a new returns agreement.

Plus, they discussed the progress made on border security during a recent visit by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to Iraq. It seems like they’re committed to tackling those smuggling networks even more closely.
