Keep Profits from Wales’ Natural Resources Within Wales for Economic Growth
Councillors in Neath Port Talbot support a motion to keep profits from natural resources in Wales to boost the local economy and create jobs

Neath Port Talbot: A recent council meeting saw unanimous support for a motion to keep profits from Wales’ natural resources in the country. This idea was pushed by Nathan Goldup-John from the Green Party. He believes that the money made should stay in Wales to help our economy instead of going to the UK Treasury.
Right now, the Crown Estate manages a huge amount of land and resources, returning billions to the UK. But Goldup-John pointed out that Wales generated over £600 million from these resources last year, and that money should benefit local communities.
He argued that with the current economic challenges, this revenue could create good green jobs and help lower energy costs. Plus, with the Celtic Freeport development, there’s a real chance to make a positive impact locally.
Another councillor, Anthony Richards, echoed these sentiments, saying that Wales has powered industries for years, but the benefits have often gone elsewhere. The council is now set to reach out to the Secretary of State and the First Minister to push for this change. It’s about time Wales gets its fair share!
