Belfast: A plane crash-landed at Belfast City Airport due to strong winds that damaged its landing gear. It’s a pretty serious situation, and now they’re looking into what happened.

Emergency services were on the scene quickly on December 22. The Aer Lingus jet was trying to land in 50mph winds when its nose gear collapsed. After that, all flights were either canceled or diverted, causing a real mess just before Christmas.

Even now, almost a month later, that plane is still sitting at the airport in Northern Ireland. No word on when it’ll be back in the air, according to Belfast Live. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) mentioned that they haven’t moved the aircraft yet because they need to do more checks as part of their investigation.

These investigations can take a long time, sometimes up to a year, and the AAIB said it’s too early to give any updates.

The jet was coming from Edinburgh when it had a rough landing because of the bad weather. Emerald Airlines said they can’t comment further right now since they’re still reviewing the situation.

On the night of the incident, an airport spokesperson confirmed that the flight was a positioning flight with no passengers, just four crew members. They activated emergency procedures, and the runway was closed for the rest of the day.

Belfast International Airport took in some diverted flights to help with the chaos. They mentioned they were close to capacity and could only take a few more redirected flights that evening. They’re doing their best to help everyone out, but they asked for patience from passengers.
