William joined eight die-hard supporters, all season ticket holders, for about half an hour. He enjoyed a pint of Bulmers cider while they discussed their favorite club. The staff at the pub kept quiet about who picked up the tab, though!
One fan described the prince as a “genuine bloke” who really loves Villa. He even shared his thoughts on the match, saying it would be a tough one. The visit was set up after William asked the club to arrange a meet-up with fans.
Daniel Jones, an 18-year-old student, said the prince was “down to earth” and really connected with their shared passion for the team. He added that if William didn’t have royal duties, he would have loved to be at the match.
John McEvoy, a 64-year-old fan, shared that William’s first game was Villa against Bolton, and he’s been a fan ever since. He mentioned that the prince planned to watch the match on TV later that night.
Before his pub visit, William was in Birmingham for a conference related to emergency care, where he was named a patron. The match was set to kick off at 19:30 GMT, and a win would push Aston Villa up to seventh in the Premier League.
They were up against Everton, who recently brought back their former manager, David Moyes. McEvoy noted that William thought it would be a challenging game, especially with the managerial change.
William has been a lifelong Aston Villa supporter, having chosen the club during his school days. He wanted a team that offered more emotional ups and downs, rather than just following the popular choices. Earlier this season, he even lost his voice cheering for Villa during their first Champions League home match in 41 years, where they triumphed over Bayern Munich.
