Ealing: The Prince of Wales is heading to London next week. He’ll be visiting a charity that helps young people dealing with homelessness. It’s a cause he really cares about.
On Tuesday, William will chat with some of the young folks getting support from Centrepoint. He’ll also join in on some fun sports activities like boxing and table football. Sounds like a good time!
This charity centre has 17 beds for young people aged 16 to 25 who are homeless. They also offer services like job help, education, and counseling to help these young people get back on their feet.
It’s a special year too, marking 20 years since William became a patron of Centrepoint. He’s been passionate about ending homelessness for a long time. He often shares how visiting shelters with his mom as a kid really shaped his views.
Just last December, he helped serve Christmas lunch at a shelter run by The Passage, a charity he learned about from his mother, Diana. It’s clear he’s committed to making a difference.
This year, he kicked off the Homewards project, aiming to tackle homelessness in a big way. The goal is to make it rare, brief, and not repeated. It’s a five-year plan with teams set up in six UK locations, including Newport and Lambeth.
Centrepoint is a key player in this project, helping to shape the program. Plus, a documentary called “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness” aired in October to celebrate the first year of this initiative.
MyLondon has also been covering the issue of rough sleeping in London, highlighting Mayor Sadiq Khan’s goal to eliminate it by 2030. It’s a tough challenge, but they’re working hard on it.
