This decision comes amid the fallout from Andrew’s connections to an alleged Chinese spy, Yang Tengbo. Royal insiders have suggested he should keep a low profile to avoid embarrassing the King during the holidays.
They even hinted that he should miss the family lunch and the Christmas Day walk to church. Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are off to spend the holidays with their in-laws for the first time.
As for whether Andrew will show up at the pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace, that’s still up in the air. Royal sources haven’t confirmed anything yet.
