Bristol: A primary school in south Bristol is getting some well-deserved recognition. Knowle Park Primary School has been praised for being a place where “everyone is welcome.” This comes after an ungraded Ofsted inspection in October.
The school, located on Queenshill Road, has around 620 pupils. It was previously inspected in 2019, and this latest inspection shows it has maintained its ‘Good’ rating from 2015.
During the inspection on October 22 and 23, it was noted that students are “happy, friendly, and respectful.” They feel confident that staff will help them with any concerns.
The teachers have high expectations, and the kids rise to the challenge. They understand that practice is key to improvement and are eager to do their best.
Students take pride in their roles, whether as team captains or participants in community events. They also get to explore new skills through various clubs, which are accessible to everyone.
The school is committed to meeting the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs. The curriculum has been revamped to clarify what students should learn and when.
Kids get to deepen their understanding by revisiting topics and connecting them to new ideas. Teachers regularly check what students know, and those who need extra help get support to catch up.
However, the report mentioned that sometimes teachers miss gaps in students’ knowledge, which can lead to misconceptions. In some subjects, the curriculum delivery could be improved.
The school also focuses on developing students’ speaking skills. From day one, kids are encouraged to use important vocabulary, which helps them communicate better and understand more.
Older students enjoy debating and discussing their opinions, which boosts their reasoning skills. They communicate respectfully, even when they disagree.
Reading is a big focus at Knowle Park, with targeted support for those who struggle. The overall development of students is well thought out and thorough.
The school has introduced a new behavior system that sets clear expectations. Most students behave well, creating a calm and orderly environment, although some may get distracted at times.
Attendance has also improved, with the school working closely with families to encourage positive habits. Most students attend regularly.
The governors are skilled and have a clear understanding of the school’s performance through effective monitoring. They ensure that the education provided positively impacts all students.
