Dublin: The price of a pint of Guinness is going up today. This change is tough for pubs already facing challenges.

The increase is six cents on Diageo products. This is the fourth price hike in two years. It affects all draught products, including Guinness and Carlsberg.

Some pubs may charge up to €6 for a pint. In Dublin, it could even exceed €7. This is a big jump from the past.

Back in 1982, a pint of Guinness cost just 99p. Adjusted for inflation, that’s about €3 today. In 1951, it was only €1.76.

Prices have been rising for 125 years. Four years ago, a pint cost around €5. Now, it’s set to reach €7.

The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI) criticized the increase. They say it will hurt pubs and their loyal customers even more.

VFI CEO Pat Crotty mentioned that publicans face rising costs everywhere. They need support to handle these increases.

He stressed that this issue goes beyond just pint prices. Many small pubs, especially in rural areas, are struggling to survive.
