Colchester: A young boy named Freddie Farrow died after a mirror fell on him. This happened at the Fenwick department store. He was just five years old and loved superheroes.

The incident occurred on July 27, 2021. Freddie was looking at his reflection when the mirror fell. It weighed between 60kg and 80kg. Staff tried to help him immediately.

Freddie was taken to Colchester General Hospital and later to Addenbrookes Hospital. Sadly, he passed away almost a week later.

On that day, he was with his mom, Natasha, and her friend. CCTV showed him touching the mirror gently before it fell. The mirror was not secured properly, which led to the accident.

Essex Coroner’s Court heard that the mirror was 2.6 meters high. There was a lot of blood on the floor and the mirror after it broke. Investigators found that a part of the bracket had come apart, causing the mirror to fall.

Freddie’s parents shared touching memories of him. His mom described him as cheeky, funny, and clever. She said he was a ray of sunshine in their lives.

His dad recalled funny moments they shared, like when Freddie joked about a friend looking like an octopus. They both expressed how much they miss him every day.

The coroner confirmed that the mirror caused serious head injuries, leading to Freddie’s tragic death. The inquest is expected to last several days.
