London: The Post Office is sounding the alarm for households in over 100 postcodes. They’re planning to close a bunch of branches, which is a real kick in the teeth for many folks.
Ross Borkett, the banking director, pointed out that a lot of people still depend on cash for their daily expenses. He mentioned how many people were withdrawing cash leading up to Christmas, showing just how important it is to have access to cash when needed.
He also highlighted that postmasters and their teams worked hard, with over a billion pounds taken out over the counter in just one month. This was shared during a speech at the Post Office’s headquarters in London, where they addressed postmasters and staff.
Martin Quinn from the Campaign for Cash said this closure plan is a big blow for communities that rely on local Post Offices for cash services. He urged the government to step in and treat the Post Office network as essential infrastructure.
With so many branches potentially shutting down, it’s a tough time for many communities. People are worried about losing their local access to cash, which is vital for everyday life.
