Manchester: A Porsche sports car was discovered frozen over on a flooded golf course. It ended up there after heavy rains caused the River Mersey to overflow.
On New Year’s Day, the Northenden Golf Club was hit hard by the floods. Pictures show the car stranded in the water, looking pretty wild. A dog walker stumbled upon it a couple of days later, shocked by the sight.
Russell Miller, the dog walker, shared his experience. He was out with his puppy when he noticed the golf course had turned into a lake. He climbed over a bank and saw the Porsche, which was covered in ice and debris.
He mentioned that the floods must have dragged the car quite a distance, about 150 yards down the fairway. It’s hard to believe it could have gotten there any other way.
The golf course wasn’t the only thing affected. The clubhouse was surrounded by water, and beer barrels were floating around. It looked surreal, almost beautiful in a strange way, but it was a disaster for the area.
Emergency services had to step in, declaring a major incident as they worked to rescue people from their homes. Around 400 folks were evacuated from a nearby hotel and other locations.
By January 2, the situation was under control, and the focus shifted to cleaning up the mess and helping people get back home. It’s going to take a while to recover from this one.
