Leigh: Ru’s Bubble Waffles has been a favorite spot for families and locals. They offered delicious bubble waffles, sundaes, ice cream, and drinks.

But now, Ru Hudson, the 27-year-old owner, has made the tough choice to close his shop.

He shared, “I’ve always dreamed of having a little business. I saw a gap in the market for an ice cream shop here.”

Ru ran his small business for six years, and it was a real labor of love.

Unfortunately, rising costs for products, rent, and electricity have become overwhelming.

“Everything is just too high right now, and the cost of living is affecting businesses everywhere, including mine,” he explained.

“You can’t keep working without making a living, can you?”

Ru credits his mum, Trudy Hodges, for her support as his business partner. She also runs a shop called Interior Modern Curated.

“I want to thank my mum for everything,” Ru said. “Without her, I wouldn’t have come this far.”

Even though Ru’s Bubble Waffles made it through the challenges of the Covid pandemic, the current economic situation has made daily operations tough.

Ru poured his heart and soul into the shop and loved every moment of it.

He said, “The best part has been meeting all the families and watching the kids grow up over the years.”

“It’s been wonderful to be part of their lives, and that’s what I’ll cherish the most.”

After six years of working seven days a week, Ru plans to take a break before considering his next steps.

Who knows? Maybe one day he’ll be back as a business owner.
