Lucy Letby’s lawyers present new evidence claiming her innocence in a recent case review

London: A big update in Lucy Letby’s case just came out. Her lawyers and an independent panel shared new medical evidence. They want a review of her case.
During a press conference, the panel said seven babies died from natural causes or poor medical care. This is a significant claim against the previous findings.
Letby is serving 15 life sentences for killing seven babies and trying to kill seven more. This happened while she worked as a nurse in a neonatal unit from June 2015 to June 2016.
Dr. Shoo Lee spoke at the press conference. He said they found no evidence of murder. He stated that all deaths were due to natural causes or bad medical care.
Dr. Lee also mentioned other reasons for the babies’ deaths. For example, Baby Seven died from an infection, and Baby 15 had a traumatic delivery.
These new findings go against the prosecution’s claims. They had argued that Letby harmed the infants, including injecting air into their bloodstreams.
Dr. Lee emphasized that the idea of air embolisms causing the babies’ issues has no evidence to support it. He was clear about that.
Letby’s lawyers have now sent her case to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC). They are looking into her application for a review.
A spokesperson for the CCRC said they are assessing the application. They also noted that it’s not their job to decide if someone is innocent or guilty.
Instead, they focus on finding and investigating possible miscarriages of justice.
