Scotland: Police have noticed a big rise in quad bike and ATV thefts since January. They want everyone to be aware and take steps to protect their vehicles.
The Rural, Acquisitive and Business Preventions Team is spreading the word. They emphasize that thieves are active, especially in rural areas where these vehicles are essential for work.
These thefts can hurt livelihoods and have a serious economic impact. Since the start of the year, the total value of stolen items is around £118,970.
Thieves are breaking into secure buildings to steal these vehicles. Sometimes they manage to take them even without the keys. However, if a tracker is installed, there have been successful recoveries.
The police are working with local partnerships to prevent these crimes. They encourage everyone to share crime prevention tips within their communities.
Here are some tips to keep your machinery safe: install immobilizers, remove keys when not in use, and use locks. Also, limit access to your property and keep vehicles out of sight.
Consider adding outside lights and CCTV for extra security. Don’t forget to record serial numbers and take photos of your vehicles.
