Vancouver: The president of the Vancouver Police Union is speaking out about a troubling sexual assault case. This case has taken a dark turn with the suicide of a Central Saanich Police officer.

Ralph Kaisers shared his thoughts in a letter to union members, which The Canadian Press got hold of. He called the officer’s death a “tragic loss” and pointed out that some public comments might have hurt the presumption of innocence.

Kaisers was referring to statements made in a news release from the Vancouver Police Department and comments from Deputy Chief Fiona Wilson. These were made after two Central Saanich officers were arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting the same woman in different incidents.

It’s a tough situation, and there’s more to come on this story.
