North London: The Metropolitan Police are stepping up to meet with locals this month. They’re holding a public meeting to chat about the rising worries over drug and knife crime. It’s been a tough time for the community, especially after some serious stabbings that have left folks feeling uneasy.

This meeting is happening on January 27 from 6:30pm to 9pm at the Grand Hall in Brent Council’s Civic Centre. If you can’t make it in person, no worries! They’ll be live streaming it on the council’s website. Residents will have a chance to speak directly with Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, who’ll share what the police are doing to keep everyone safe.

Just earlier this month, there was a similar gathering at Willesden Green library after a tragic stabbing incident. About 120 people showed up, eager to find out what’s being done to tackle crime and anti-social behavior in their area.

It’s heartbreaking to hear about Recorda Davey-Ann Clarke, who sadly passed away in an ambulance after being stabbed. People are really feeling the impact of these events, and it’s clear they want answers.

And it’s not just knife crime that’s got people worried. There are also issues with drug-related anti-social behavior, fly-tipping, and even problems with pavement repairs. Locals are calling for more action from both the police and the council to address these concerns.

One resident made it clear: they don’t want just another meeting where nothing gets done. They’re looking for real action, with the council, police, and community working together to improve safety in the area. They understand there are budget cuts, but neglecting safety could end up costing more in the long run.

The upcoming meeting is organized by the Brent Safer Neighbourhood Board, which includes community members and partners. They’re there to help the community engage with the police and ensure that everyone’s voice is heard. They’ll discuss how the police are collaborating with local partners to make the borough safer.

Attendees will also get to meet local police officers, council staff, and support workers who are all working hard to tackle these issues. They’ll be looking for feedback on how to better connect with the community. After the meeting, the board will work with the police to make sure residents’ concerns are addressed.

Cllr Harbi Farah, the Cabinet Member for Public Safety and Partnerships, emphasized that this is a great chance to learn about what’s being done in Brent regarding community safety. He encouraged everyone to come and share their thoughts on reducing drug use and knife carrying.
