In a tense situation in Grafton, police shot a man armed with a knife while responding to a welfare check, leaving him in serious condition.

Grafton: So, here’s the scoop. Police had to shoot a guy with a knife during a welfare check early Wednesday morning. It all went down in a park on Ryan Street.
Officers got the call around 6:30 AM and tried to talk to the man. But things took a turn when he allegedly threatened them with the knife. That’s when they had to act.
After the shooting, the police gave him first aid until paramedics arrived. He was then flown to the Gold Coast University Hospital. Thankfully, he’s in serious but stable condition.
Now, the Richmond Police District’s critical incident team is on the case, looking into what happened. A spokesperson mentioned that the officers involved weren’t hurt.
They’re also saying there will be an independent review of the whole situation. Expect a press conference later today for more details.
