Edinburgh: Police Scotland’s officer numbers have gone up recently. They now have 16,508 full-time officers. This is a 0.5% increase from the last quarter of 2024.
Last year, the numbers hit a low not seen since 2007. But they have bounced back since then. The current figures are also higher than this time last year.
In late 2021, officer numbers were over 17,200. A report showed that 945 officers are set to retire before summer 2025. This could impact the force’s strength.
The Scottish Police Federation has raised concerns. They say recruitment needs to keep pace with retirements to maintain officer numbers.
