North Yorkshire: A police officer lost her life after being struck by a lorry while helping people involved in a crash. PC Rosie Prior was at the scene of an accident with a Ford Focus and an Audi on the A19 near Bagby.

While she was assisting those affected, a heavy goods vehicle crashed into them. Tragically, PC Prior and the Audi’s driver, Ryan Welford, 41, from Knaresborough, both died. A teenager in the Audi was also seriously hurt and is now in stable condition.

The collision happened around 9 am, and the area was cleared by 7:20 pm. After the recovery of the vehicles, the road reopened, but the impact of the incident was felt deeply.

Chief Constable Tim Forber expressed his sorrow, saying it was a heartbreaking event. He emphasized the need to support both families during this tough time and asked for privacy as they grieve.

He described PC Prior as an exemplary officer and a beloved member of the police family. Her colleagues in York are receiving support as they cope with this loss.

Ryan Welford’s family also shared their grief, remembering him as a dedicated father and husband who will be missed dearly.

A 65-year-old man from Berwick-upon-Tweed, who was driving the HGV, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has been released under investigation.
