North Yorkshire: A tragic event unfolded when a police officer was hit by a lorry while assisting drivers involved in a previous crash. PC Rosie Prior lost her life on the A19 at Bagby on Saturday morning.
Alongside her, 41-year-old Ryan Welford from Knaresborough was also killed when the HGV struck them both. It’s just heartbreaking.
There’s also a teenage boy who’s in serious but stable condition at the hospital. The driver of the lorry, a 65-year-old from Berwick-upon-Tweed, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released under investigation.
Chief Constable Tim Forber expressed deep condolences, saying they’re doing everything possible to support the families affected by this tragedy. He emphasized how traumatic this is for everyone involved and asked for privacy for the grieving families.
PC Prior’s family described her as a loving mum, wife, and sister who will be deeply missed. Ryan Welford’s family shared that he was a hardworking and loving father and husband, and his absence will be felt by many.
If anyone has information about the incident, they’re encouraged to reach out to the North Yorkshire police.
