Newport: Earlier today, there was quite a scene in Newport city centre. Police were out in full force, tackling the issue of illegal e-bikes.
It all went down around 2 PM near the Subway on High Street. You could see a police van and a bunch of officers on the scene.
They were responding to reports that delivery drivers were zipping around on these illegal e-bikes, using the pavements and roads while making their deliveries.
In total, they confiscated four of these bikes and made two arrests. It was a pretty big operation.
The acting sergeant mentioned that immigration authorities were also involved, which added another layer to the situation.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said this was all part of a planned effort to deal with the anti-social use of e-bikes and e-scooters in the area.
They even mentioned that one bike was seized for not having insurance. It’s good to see the police and the Home Office working together on this.
