Wigan: Police are really concerned after seeing kids playing on a frozen canal. Just the other day, a group of boys was spotted having fun on the ice at the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

They were taking some risks, with a couple of them sitting on the wall and others standing right on the ice. It’s a dangerous game, especially since the ice can be super unpredictable.

Just today, police got another report about kids on frozen water at Dover Lock. They took to Facebook to remind everyone that ice can look thick but can crack easily. Their message is clear: stay safe and don’t go on the ice.

A local councillor, Nazia Rehman, also chimed in, saying the ice can be tricky and dangerous. She reminded everyone that there have been cases where young people have drowned, so it’s really not worth the risk.

Over the weekend, there were other incidents too. A photo showed a boy walking on a frozen lake at Reddish Vale Country Park, and on Saturday, police warned about kids playing on a fishing pond in Farnworth. They stressed how dangerous this behavior can be.

Police also shared some safety tips, like not throwing things for dogs onto the ice and calling 999 if you see someone in trouble. It’s all about keeping everyone safe during these chilly days.
