Birmingham: A road in the city center is all blocked off by the police today. Newhall Street in the Jewellery Quarter has been taped off since this afternoon.

They’ve set up a cordon near the BT Tower, with police cars and ambulances on the scene. A reporter from BirminghamLive snapped a photo of a police car parked across the road, cones in front, and a little police sign on the ground.

You can see an officer standing by the car, with blue and white tape stretching across the street. There’s also an unmarked Volvo with its blue lights flashing and an ambulance parked nearby.

A local resident from Pope Street, who didn’t want to give their name, mentioned seeing more and more police showing up. They were just heading to the Co-Op for some groceries when they stumbled upon the big police scene. The staff inside seemed confused about what was happening.

“More police kept arriving, and the number 101 bus was stuck in the mess. An ambulance was there too. It looked pretty serious to me,” they said.

Right now, it’s unclear what exactly went down. BirminghamLive has reached out to West Midlands Police for more details.

We have a reporter on the way to the scene. Keep an eye on our live blog for the latest updates.
